NAVI MUMBAI: The monitoring committee of Taloja common effluent treatment plant (CETP), appointed by National Green Tribunal (NGT) and headed by former Bombay HC judge V M Kanade, suggested at the eighth review meeting recently that Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) and Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) expedite preparations for an environmental restoration plan with detailed methodologies following damage to the eco-system and marine life due to toxic discharge from CETP into Kasadi river and Thane creek at the Kharghar-end.
Panvel corporator Arvind Mhatre had filed a case before NGT against environmental degradation by the CETP. The next hearing is in October.
